Recycling Candle Containers
We love reducing waste. The easiest way to reduce waste from a candle is to reuse the candle container. But what are good ways to use it? And how do you even get it clean enough to reuse? We’ll answer these questions in this article.
First of all, let’s look at some ideas for how you can reuse your empty candle containers:
small succulent pot
container for small items like buttons, hair pins, safety pins, or screws
container for drippings from cooking
hiding spot for chocolate or candy
creative gift wrapping
piggy bank for your child
container for matches for your next candle
traveling container for toiletries (such as soap), cords, or jewelry
vase for small bouquets
Reusing your container is even easier when you can clean it out successfully! Here are some of our tips on how to clear out the remaining wax, metal tab, glue, and stickers from your container.
Wax:
Heat your candle container in your oven at the lowest heat setting (around 170 degrees).
Do not use your microwave since the candle tins are made of metal.
Use a paper towel to wipe out the melted excess wax.
To get your container completely free of waxy residues, scrub it with some rubbing alcohol and a paper towel.
Metal tab & glue:
With pliers (preferably needle nose), grab the edge of the metal tab and bend it up to create a small gripping edge.
Once you've bent the edge up on the tab, grab it firmly with the pliers and pull the tab out.
This might take a bit of effort, but once it has started to come off it should pop off with the glue.
Stickers:
Peel the stickers off as much as possible.
If the stickers leave a residue, dampen the residue with some rubbing alcohol and then scrape or rub the remainder off with a paper towel.
We hope this was helpful. Enjoy giving your candle container a new life!
