Candle Burning Guide
It’s important to us that you get the most out of your Wick & Spice candle. Please refer to this page to take note of some candle care basics and review safety information, as well as to know what to expect out of your burn experience.
The candles at Wick & Spice are made using soy wax. Soy wax is a natural vegetable wax and is prone to some aesthetic irregularities that other wax types, such as paraffin wax, are not. Some of the more common ones are a frosted top or a rough, cratered top, before or after burning. These features will not affect the quality of the candle’s burn or fragrance but is a purely aesthetic abnormality that may occur as a result of using natural wax.
To ensure a safe and pleasant experience while using your candle, please observe the following tips.
-
Trim it.
Keep wicks trimmed to ¼ inch before every burn to avoid large flames, excess soot, or black smoke.
-
Burn it.
Burn long enough (about 2 hours) for the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the container. Otherwise, only the wax in the center will be used, leaving wax on the edge of the container even after the wick is burned down.
-
Extinguish it.
Burn for no longer than 4 hours. Longer burn times can leave carbon deposits at the tip of the wick, resulting in black smoke.
-
Space it.
Always supervise your candle when it is burning and keep it away from other flammable objects. If burning multiple candles, space them at least 3” away from each other.
-
Cap it.
Keep the lid on the candle when it is not burning. This helps preserve the quality of the candle until the next burn.
-
Store it.
Store the candle on a room-temperature surface. Leaving the candle on a warmer surface, such as a stovetop can hurt the burning experience as heat from the oven or stove can cause the wax to melt.
